Wellspring House, an outstanding writing retreat

Well, I’m deep into the second full day of my writing retreat at Wellspring House in Ashfield, MA, the town where everyone knows your name (if you live here) and cell phones don’t work.

At my wife’s urging, I research writing retreat opportunities and discovered this great venue where I have access to a small bedroom, shared bathrooms and kitchen, the living room, and the grounds plus the surrounding area. I’m here to work on a fantasy novel, my first serious attempt at writing something novel-length since college. That particular project, while completed, will NEVER see the light of day.

So now I’m here for a week during which I am disconnected whether I like it or not (cell service is virtually nil and the house Wi-Fi and internet connection are, shall we say, limited. But as a result, it imposes focus time and I’m loving it.

Every 1000 words or so, I change venues. Thus far, I’ve have enjoyed writing in my room, the funky living room, outdoors, at the local cafe, at the lakeside park across the street, and now at the delightful little library.
